If you're planning to travel by public transport,

  • First, take a train to Nawalapitiya Railway Station
  • From there, board a bus to Dolosbage and get off at the Dolosbage Junction

This is where your hike to Kabaragala Mountain begins.

Kabaragala Mountain stands at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters above sea level. Reaching the summit usually takes around 2 hours or more, depending on your pace. Throughout the hike, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking natural scenery, making it an enjoyable experience for both experienced hikers and beginners.

At the summit, you'll find a vast grassland along with a dramatic cliff offering spectacular panoramic views. On a clear day, you can see several famous landmarks, including the Seven Virgins Mountain Range (Sapth Kanya), Sri Pada (Adam's Peak), Rassagala, Bathalegala, Ambuluwawa, and Pidurutalagala, Sri Lanka's highest mountain.

Important Tips for Visiting Kabaragala Mountain

  • Be prepared for changing weather: The weather at the summit can change very quickly, so make sure to bring a waterproof and wind-resistant tent, especially if you're planning to camp overnight.

  • Stay away from the cliff edges: The grassy slopes near the cliffs can be extremely slippery and dangerous. Always keep a safe distance from the edge.

  • Carry the essentials: Bring enough drinking water, food, a flashlight (torch), and other basic hiking essentials to ensure a safe and comfortable trip.
